Come wander back with me to Hazel
Creek
and many wonderful places you shall see.
The Elephant Rock stands tall and
wide
Soft grey moss grows on its' side,
The River Mountain rises in the mist
One more place on my list
The Big Butte and Pinnacle too
The Old Barn Ridge comes in view,
The Smoky Mountains covered with
snow
Our people crossed them long ago.
The Ecua Branch runs swift and deep
On its way to Eagle Creek,
The Flint Rock Gap with rocks white
as snow
The Copper mine in the valley below.
There are many streams of which to
speak
But none compares with Hazel Creek,
We fished the pools so dark and deep
Climbed the bluff so rough and
steep.
We carved our names for all to see
With a Barlow knife on the Old Beech
Tree,
The tree still stands majestic and
tall
A riot of color late in the fall.
The old Swinging Bridge we crossed
many a time
To see a movie that cost a dime,
As we walked home thru the night
We carried a lantern to give us
light.
We walked a street called Calico
On a board sidewalk many years ago,
We crossed the bridge over the creek
And walked back down Strutting
Street.
There was the Post Office and Barber
Shop
The Depot where the train would
stop,
The Church stood at the foot of the
hill
The Lumber Yard and Planning Mill.
The Old Mill Pond so deep and wide
With cattails growing by its' side,
Many more places you will see
If you will wander back with me.
Bear Pen Branch, Possum Hollow,
Sugar Fork and Bone Valley
All of these come to mind,
There are no other Places so dear
That you or I will ever find.
It's God's Country!
